Sour Ale with Pineapple Skin, Orange Zest, Lime Zest, Allspice, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, and Ginger
When nothing makes sense anymore we resort to illuminating an “X” on the window and hope for guidance from those with a deeper understanding. Our friends at West Asheville’s beloved Golden Pineapple know that The Truth Is Out There and it’s not Purity Control, it’s masterfully mixed cocktails. They are some of our very favorite humans and we were delighted to have them down to the barrelhouse to bend our brains on a couple cocktail-inspired blends of our wild ales. We landed on a blend of barrel-aged sours, ranging from neutral red wine barrels to second use bourbon barrels, that culminate the core of this Rum Swizzle inspired golden sour ale. We then re-fermented the beer on pineapple skins, fresh orange and lime zests, and a cautious dose of allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. We get wafts of freshly grated painkiller, lime coolers, and even cardamom buns from the East West.
